Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco – Huacarpay Lake
Our half day bird trip starts with the pick up in your hotel to then move straight to Huacarpay Lake “Site Ramsar Lucre-Huacarpay” This lake gives us an excellent opportunity to observe more than 100 species of birds, such as Bearded Mountaineer (Oreonympha nobilis), Rusty-fronted Canastero (Asthenes ottonis) and Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch (Poospiza caesar). Many-colored Rush-Tyrant and Wren-like Rushbird.
Other birds we may well encounter here are Many-colored Rush Tyrant, White-tufted Grebe, Yellow-Billed, Puna and Cinnamon Teals, Yellow-billed Pintail, Ruddy Duck, Cinereous Harrier, Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle, Variable Hawk, Plumbeous Rail, Puna Ibis, Andean Lapwing, Andean Coot, Andean Gull, Andean Flicker, Andean Negrito, the impressive Giant Hummingbird, Sparkling Violetear, Black tailed and Green-tailed Trainbearers, Streak-fronted Thornbird, Wren-like Rushbird, White-crested Elaenia, Yellow-billed Tit-Tyrant, White-browed Chat-Tyrant, Rufous-naped and Spot-billed Ground-Tyrants, Greenish Yellow-Finch, Peruvian sierra-Finch, Mourning sierra-Finch, Golden-billed Saltator, Yellow-winged Blackbird, Hooded Siskin and many more.
There is another number of migratory, seasonal and occasional birds that from Australia, the northern United States, and other areas, that hatch their eggs.
The Huacarpay Lagoon is part of a protected natural area, formed by singular and beautiful wetlands, full of wild Tobacco, eucalyptus shrubs growing around the lake are very effective to attract different species of birds.
In the Huacarpay wetland you can also see species such as chachacomo, molle, lambran, capulí, and other species of trees native to the area.
Surrounded by Archeological Sites
The ruins of Urpicancha were built by the Wari culture, its name could be translated as the “House of the doves”, is structures reveal the Wari’s techniques.
Located on a small plateau with a huge mountain behind to the east of the lagoon Huacarpay in Cusco. There also few others archeological sites in the vicinity of the lake such as; Qaranqayniyuj, Choquepucjio, Kunturqaqa, Piquillacta.

Note : During meals in the dining room you can wear casual clothing and shoes or sandals. We provide rubber boots for walk in the rainforest.
- Quick movements and loud noises are stressful to animals. Considerate travelers practice these safety methods:
- Learn about wildlife through quiet observation. Do not disturb wildlife or plants just for a “better look.” Observe wildlife from a distance so they are not scared or forced to flee.
- Considerate travelers observe wildlife from afar, give animals a wide berth.
- Avoid use of flash while taking snaps.
- Store food securely and keep garbage and food scraps away from animals so they will not acquire bad habits .Never feed wildlife. Help keep wildlife wild.
- Make sure the colors of clothing and gear blend with the environment.
