A program that offers us an excellent opportunity to enjoy and meet one of the regions of high diversity in the world, the Manu National Park located south-east of Perú, it extends from 300 m.a.s.l. at the confluence of the Manu River with the Alto Madre de Dios River, up to 3800 meters above sea level on the summit of the Apu Cañajuay mountain.

The Manu National Park is biodiverse, contains more than 20,000 types of plants, 1,200 of butterflies, 1,000 species of birds and 200 species of mammals which the Jaguar is undoubtedly the most mysterious. The Manu National Park is also the territory of various ancestral peoples, each with its own language, customs and traditions so unique that they have survived to our times.

Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest

 At the scheduled time we will pick you up from the hotel, and then head to the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo (which in the time of the Incas, was a strategic commercial point between the valley of Kosñipata or Antisuyo and the capital of Tahuantinsuyo, Cusco.). We will ascend to the Acjanaco pass (3550 m / 11.647 ft), which is the entrance to the Manu National Park.

We will make a stop to enjoy the view of the forest and wildlife from the Manu road .We continue the travel until reaching the lodge, where we spend the night. (1,450 m.a.sl.).

Day 02: Cloud Forest – Atalaya Port – Shipetiari Native Community

On this day, activities will begin very early, we will visit the Lek  of Cock of the Rock (Rupicola Peruvianus), Lek are strategic places where the Cock of the Rock come everyday to perform their colorful and noisy courtship dance, in which the males wait to be chosen by the female of the species.

We continue the journey until we reach the port of Atalaya, where we change transport by a motorized boat that will take us through the waters of the Alto Madre de Dios river, until we reach the Matsiguenka community of Shipetiari. The Matsiguenka community is adjacent to the Manu National Park, after the welcoming we will settle in our comfortable rooms.

Later we will have the opportunity to explore the jungle, in search of fauna, surrounded by the most extravagant sounds that make this place a mysterious place.

Included Activities :   Visit the  lek   of   the Andean cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus), also known as tunki (Quechua), is a large passerine bird of the cotinga family native to Andean cloud forests in South America. – Jungle trail system

Day 03: Shipetiari Community – Manu Wildlife Center

 

After breakfast we will be ready to continue the journey until we reach MWC. during the trip we have the opportunity to find wildlife along the river banks.

In the afternoon, we arrive at the lodge, where we accommodate in our comfortable rooms, the lodge has a trail system where we can find more wildlife.

Day 04: Manu Wildlife Center – Trail System – Cocha Blanco

Early in the morning we will visit Cocha Blanco. Here there are a family of giant river Otters and the black caiman, endangered species. We will be back by lunchtime and at the scheduled time we will go out to explore the trail system of the lodge, with a great possibility to see monkeys, many birds and butterflies among other species of the Manu jungle. We will visit the observation tower. Back in the lodge we will have the chance to walk through the forest by night.

Included Activities :   Cocha Blanco oxbowl lake, observation tower, jungle trail system.

Day 05: Manu Wildlife Center – Macaw Clay Lick Blanquillo – Puerto Maldonado

Early in the morning we will visit the Blanquillo Macaw clay-lick, after a boat trip we will arrive at the destination, this Macaw clay-lick is one of the largest in South America, in this place you can see species such as: Scarlet Macaw, Blue Yellow Macaw, Blue-headed Parrot, among other species of Psittacidae, it has also been possible to observe some primates, savoring the minerals of the clay-lick. We will enjoy this colorful show from a strategically located hiding place.

After a short walk through the trails, we embark towards the town of Colorado, where we will change transport to continue the travel by the Interoceanic Road, at midday we arrive to the city of Puerto Maldonado.

(Note: The Macaw Clay Lick has more activity during the months of August to October and less activity in May and June).

Note :  Flights to Cusco or Lima are not included but we will arrange this by request. Also you can take a bus from Puerto Maldonado  to Cusco. (not included)

 

Day 06: Puerto Maldonado – Cusco / Lima

 

At the scheduled time we will pick you up from the hotel and then head to the airport or bus station.

Note:

All programs in the jungle may have slight variations, depending on the reports of our experienced guides and weather conditions, in order to maximize the observation of wildlife.

For the jungle trip you will need the following equipment:

What to wear:

  • Long pants & sleaved cotton shirts (preferably in green or tan colours)
  • Sneakers (covered shoes) or other low heeled walking shoes
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat or cap

What to bring:

  • Swimwear
  • Sandals
  • Personal hygiene ítems
  • Daypack or small backpack
  • Personal prescription medicine (if that’s the case)
  • Rain coat
  • Flashlight or headlight
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Photocopy of Passport
  • Yellow fever certificate and extra money in plastic bags

Suggested:

  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Your own personal water container, to be refilled at any time. This way we can reduce the usage of plastic

Note : During meals in the dining room you can wear casual clothing and shoes or sandals. We provide rubber boots for walk in the rainforest.

  • Quick movements and loud noises are stressful to animals. Considerate travelers practice these safety methods:
    • Learn about wildlife through quiet observation. Do not disturb wildlife or plants just for a “better look.” Observe wildlife from a distance so they are not scared or forced to flee.
    • Considerate travelers observe wildlife from afar, give animals a wide berth.
    • Avoid use of flash while taking snaps.
    • Store food securely and keep garbage and food scraps away from animals so they will not acquire bad habits .Never feed wildlife. Help keep wildlife wild.
    • Make sure the colors of clothing and gear blend with the environment.
